Who We Are

Southern States is a joint effort between RunningLane of Huntsville, Alabama and Southeastern Trial Runs of Birmingham. Putting together a point-to-point trail race is a unbelievably complicated and difficult task. Making that race the quality event our runners have come to expect, is a huge undertaking. Neither of our companies would have even considered such a task as a solo venture. By merging our experience, our assets, our resources and our determinations, we are confident the Southern States 200 will provide our runners the quality race experience they have come to expect from each of our companies.

Early in 2023 the Principals of both companies (Sean Allan and Will Rodgers , RunningLane and David and Marye Jo Tosch, Southeastern Trail Runs) had a long conversation about the possibility of a 200 trail race along the Pinhoti Trail. We decided to evaluate whether such a venture would be practical and doable.

For us to put our names and reputations on the line, we had to be sure we could put a race together that would be 100% up to our standards. After several months of thought, evaluation and many emails back and forth, we decided to go with the idea of the Southern States 200.

Both companies have a well established reputation for quality races. Southeastern Trail Runs has 8 races annually, RunningLane hosts 15 races each year. STR put on their first race in 2011, the Run for Kids Challenge. RunningLane’s first race was the Grand Viduta Stage Race in 2014. We will put all our years of experience into making the SS200 the Best 200 Mile Race in the US. The Southern States 200 will not disappoint. That is our promise to you, the runners.
